The enteral mode of nutrition delivery in the critically ill confers gastrointestinal, immunologic and survival advantages over parenteral nutrition (PN), especially when initiated early. Intensive care unit (ICU) patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) exhibit hypercatabolism, needing higher energy requirements.
