The rates of myopia, including high myopia [spherical equivalent ≥-6 dioptres (D)], have been reported to be rising to epidemic proportions in Asia and solutions to this huge public health problem are urgently needed. Many researchers agree that myopia is not determined solely by genes and that environment may play a huge role.
