Raising Children in Singapore: A Paediatrician’s Perspective

Singapore has made remarkable achievements in improving maternal and child health in the last four decades since its independence. The infant mortality rates have fallen from 82.2 per thousand births in 1950, to 6.6 per thousand in 1990 and 2.1 per thousand in 2007. The under 5 mortality rates are 9 and 3 per thousand children 0-5 years old in 1990 and 2006, respectively1 .
