There has been growing evidence over the years that the early recognition and treatment of psychotic disorders leads to significant improvement and overall prognosis. Several studies have clearly shown that a longer duration of untreated psychosis is associated with a worse outcome or prognosis for the individual. It has also been shown that psychotic disorders are generally preceded by a prodromal phase, which presents as changes in a person’s well-being and psychosocial functioning.
