The latest casualty in the “Editor-Owner” debacle, the forced departure of Jerome Kassirer as Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), has prompted me to reflect on the future of the Annals. Could the recent momentous termination of editorial stewardship of the two leading medical journals, JAMA and NEJM, have a domino effect on smaller circulation journals such as the Annals?
