Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia with a prevalence of 1.5% in Singapore and 0.4% to 1% in the general population. The risk of ischaemic stroke in patients with AF is increased by fivefold and is stratified using CHA2 DS2 -VASc score. AF-related strokes are associated with greater disability and mortality.
